A Favorite Poem

My wife remembered a hymn this morning that included the words, "... love shall tread out the baleful fires of anger, and in its ashes plant the tree of peace", and, searching the web, I discovered it is a poem called "Our World" by one of my favorite Quaker poets, John Greenleaf Whittier. As is the case when other Whittier poems have been turned into hymns, verses have been rearranged and subtle changes have been made to the words. I found the original poem on page 284 in the Google Books preview of This We Can Say, a book by Australian Quakers and thought it worth sharing.
